There’s smoke on the Joe Thornton trade front – sort of

Last week, it was rumored that Joe Thornton may be traded as part of the Sharks roster shake up. This week, his agent (and brother) John Thornton responded to the trade talk:

“He’s perfectly happy there right now. He wants to stay there and win the cup. He believes they still have enough talent. If he felt the fans didn’t want him in San Jose, he might re-think things”

Thornton is the proud owner of a full no movement clause. He 100% controls his destiny. Which means, the Sharks should probably start treating him like crap if they actually want him to leave sunny California.

This is loosely relevant to the Rangers. As I mentioned earlier, I expect a panic move of sorts if they don’t win the Stanley Cup. They acquired Rick Nash when they lost in he Eastern Conference Final two years ago. They traded Marian Gaborik when it looked like they may miss the playoffs last year. They traded for Martin St. Louis for the final push this year. The Rangers are in go for broke mode. They only have so many whacks at the pinata left.
