Rangers trade Dorsett to Canucks for a pick

The Rangers have traded Derek Dorsett to the Canucks in exchange for a third round pick (85th overall) in the 2014 draft. I speculated earlier that Dorsett may be traded in favor of Dan Carcillo or a cheaper alternative for the fourth line as a means to open up some cap space. A third round pick for a fourth line face puncher isn’t a bad return for the Rangers. Especially considering their desperate need for draft picks.

It’s not to say Carcillo (hypothetically) and Dorsett are an even swap. Dorsett was effective in his role considering the extreme defensive zone starts percentage. But the performance difference is probably marginal. What the Rangers lose on the ice will probably be less than what they’ve gained w/ the cap space and draft pick.

Dorsett will be best remembered for.. this?
