The Rangers have agreed to a one year, $3.5M deal with Mats Zuccarello, allowing both parties to avoid the unpleasantries of arbitration. Zuccarello will be a free agent next summer, just ahead of his age 28 season. According to Larry Brooks, both sides will continue to work towards a long-term deal.

The agreement is best for both sides. At this point, Zuccarello is not worth more than $3.5M on a long term deal. The deal allows him to have another good year ahead of free agency when the Rangers are in a better cap situation to extend him long-term. Everybody is a winner.
