Andy Strickland is reporting that Florida Panthers defenseman Brian Campbell wants to play on a hockey team that is good. The veteran defenseman known as “Soupy” wants to be traded from the Panthers, choosing winning hockey over beautiful and tax free Miami. Campbell is a left-handed, 35 year old defenseman with two years at $7.14M remaining on his contract. Since being traded to the Panthers in 2011, he has been one of the lone bright spots on the team. He’s a damn good hockey player, who I would love the Rangers to have. The cap hit is problematic, though not impassable since I think we can expect the Panthers to eat a good chunk of it in any trade.
